I try to read a book a week and learn as much as I can about the world, people and the many ways in which we can inspire, empower and improve ourselves.
I, personally, have far to go and much to learn. My flaws and mistakes are too many to count or even remember. But I’ve found that reading is one way to teach myself to be a bit better than the day before and step by step, I’ll learn to become a better human at the end, I hope.
This week’s book was an insightful and emotional teacher, one that opened my eyes to what it’s like to be born a woman in the darkest parts of the world. I, myself, was born in such a place, but I was lucky to have found a way out.
The reason I write the novels I write is to tell the stories of the women and girls I left behind – so they may have a voice through my work. And it’s these very same women and girls I read about in this week’s book by Melinda Gates.
In this week’s video, I share the main lessons I gleaned from her book, and I also share what in this book made me infuriating, jumping, angry mad especially when it comes to the state of women in the world. And now I’m seeking ways to channel this anger into a productive and uplifting endeavor, just like the author of this book has accomplished so marvelously.
